Fatal Crash Investigation in the Eastway Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, August 23, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal crash involving a single vehicle in the Eastway Division.

 

On Friday, August 23, 2024, at approximately 11:47 p.m., Eastway Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injury involving a 2004 Lexus GX 470 near the 3600 block of N. Sharon Amity Rd. When officers arrived on scene, they located an unresponsive driver, Pravis Lamont Anderson Jr. (34), and a white 2004 Lexus GX 470 with heavy damage in the PVA of the Shell gas station located at 3601 N. Sharon Amity Rd. Mr. Anderson was pronounced deceased on scene at 11:56 p.m.

 

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, Motor Unit, members of the DWI Task Force, and Crime Scene Search, responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. The preliminary investigation indicates Mr. Anderson was driving at a high rate of speed on N. Sharon Amity Rd. when he failed to stop at a steady red light at the intersection of N. Sharon Amity Rd. and Central Avenue. Mr. Anderson failed to maintain lane control and struck the curb and then the base of a light pole on the west side of N. Sharon Amity Rd. Mr. Anderson did not appear to be wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision and was ejected from the vehicle.

 

Speed and impairment are suspected to be contributing factors to the crash.

 

Mr. Anderson’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
