Fatal Bicycle Crash Investigation in the Hickory Grove Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, July 25, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal crash involving a bicycle in the Hickory Grove Division.
On Sunday, July 21, 2024, at approximately 6:17 p.m., Hickory Grove Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a bicyclist in the 8500 block of Robinson Church Road. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male bicyclist on the shoulder of the roadway and a 2020 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SUV with damage to the front right corner. The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene. MEDIC transported the bicyclist, Christian Dixon Green, 15, to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit responded to the scene to conduct their investigation and members of Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. The preliminary investigation indicates the bicyclist failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Jerimoth Drive and Robinson Church Road. Mr. Green was struck by the front right corner of the Mitsubishi driven by Allize Ybonne Kambrea Shelton, 25. Ms. Shelton was not injured in the crash and was not impaired.
On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Christian Green was pronounced deceased at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center due to injuries he sustained from the crash. Christian’s family was with him at the time of his passing.
