Case Update: Dog Bite Investigation in the University City Division

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, September 22, 2023) – As a result of the continued investigation, the owner of the cane Corso mix dogs has been charged in connection to this case.

 

On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, the following citations were issued by officers of CMPD’s University City Division to the dogs’ owner:

 

  • Unprovoked Bite (Class 3 Misdemeanor)
  • Leash Law Violation (Class 3 Misdemeanor)

 

The dogs did not have current rabies vaccinations.  They were euthanized and sent to the state laboratory for rabies testing.  The results of the test were negative.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, September 18, 2023) – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Animal Care and Control Division is investigating a dog attack that resulted in two victims injured. The attack happened near apartments near Mallard Glen Drive and Mallard Highlands Drive in the University City Division.

 

On Monday, September 18, 2023, shortly after 9 a.m., Animal Care and Control received a call for service regarding an attack involving two Cane Corso mix dogs. Charlotte Fire, CMPD’s University Division Patrol, and MEDIC also responded to the scene.

 

Preliminary information reveals that the owner of the dogs was walking the animals on a leash when the dogs escaped from her and ran out of sight. An adult female victim was then attacked by the escaped dogs. A short time later, the victim’s family member, an adult female, arrived to try and intervene and was also attacked.

 

The victims were transported with serious injuries by MEDIC to the hospital for treatment. The dogs were surrendered to Animal Care and Control. They were euthanized and sent to the state laboratory for rabies testing. The dogs did not have current rabies vaccinations.
