Case Update: Death Investigation in the Eastway Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, March 6, 2024) – As a result of the investigation, detectives obtained arrest warrants for Candise Griffin, 31, the mother of the victim, for Involuntary Manslaughter hours following the incident.
During the afternoon hours of Tuesday, March 5, 2024, Ms. Griffin turned herself into the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office. Death Investigation in the Eastway Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, February 21, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are conducting a death investigation in the 2300 block of Eastway Drive in the Eastway Division.
On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, shortly after 5:30 p.m., officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the 2300 block of Eastway Drive for an Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Injury call for service. Upon arrival, officers located a three-year-old male with a gunshot wound. MEDIC responded and transported the victim to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The child was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation and Crime Scene Investigations responded to process the scene. Representatives from the CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, MEDIC and the Charlotte Fire Department also assisted.
The initial investigation reveals that the shooting appears to be self-inflicted from an unsecured firearm. All parties are accounted for and detectives are not looking for anyone at this time.
