Case Update: Homicide in the North Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, September 25, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit have charged an additional suspect in connection to the death of 3-year-old Asiah Figueroa on September 8, 2021.
On Friday, September 20, 2024, Datonio Stephens, 25, was located and arrested. The arrest of Mr. Stephens was made with the assistance of CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT), FBI-Charlotte, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI) and the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office (NC). Mr. Stephens has been charged with the following:
- Murder
- Attempted Murder (8 counts)
- Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling (9 counts)
- Conspiracy to Commit Murder
Asiah Figueroa’s next of kin has been notified of the arrest.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, January 5, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are requesting the public’s assistance in locating Bryce Felder (DOB: 05/02/2002), who is wanted in connection with the murder of three-year-old Asiah Figueroa.
During the investigation, detectives received information that identified Bryce Felder as one of the suspects in this case and obtained a warrant for Murder. CMPD’s VCAT detectives are actively searching for Felder and are asking anyone in the public who knows his whereabouts to call CMPD’s VCAT immediately at 704-336-VCAT (8228). Felder should be considered armed and dangerous.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, September 18, 2021) - Kaleb Lawrence turned himself in to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office earlier today. Lawrence has been charged with Murder, eight counts of Attempted Murder, nine counts of Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling and Conspiracy to Commit Murder.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, September 17, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit and Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) are requesting the public’s assistance in locating Kaleb Lawrence, DOB: 09/12/2000, who is wanted for the murder of three-year-old Asiah Figueroa.
As a result of the investigation, Lawrence was identified as a suspect in this case, and a murder warrant was issued for his arrest. CMPD’s VCAT Detectives are actively searching for Lawrence and are asking anyone in the public who knows his whereabouts to call Detective Jessica Zinobile immediately at 704-336-VCAT (8228). Lawrence should be considered armed and dangerous.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, September 11, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit and the Crime Gun Suppression Team have charged Jacob Lanier DOB: 04/21/2000, with the death of Asiah Figueroa. Lanier was arrested on Friday, September 10, 2021.
Lanier has been transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with Murder, eight counts of Attempted Murder, nine counts of Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling and Conspiracy to Commit Murder.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, September 10, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Qua'Tonio Stephens DOB: 8/21/2000 with Accessory After the Fact to Murder in the case of Asiah Figueroa.
From information gathered, detectives with the Crime Gun Suppression Team and North Division obtained reasonable suspicion to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Stephens on September 8, 2021. The vehicle failed to stop, and a vehicle pursuit ensued. Following the pursuit, Stephens was apprehended without further incident on Interstate 85 near Glenwood Drive. Stephens was transported to the Law Enforcement Center to be interviewed by Homicide Detectives. Stephens was subsequently transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with Accessory After the Fact to Murder and Felony Flee to Elude. In addition, Stephens was charged with seven counts of Assault With a Deadly Weapon With Intent to Kill and three counts of Shooting Into an Occupied Dwelling from an incident that occurred on September 7, 2021, in the 11300 block of Joe Morrison Lane with complaint number 20210907-0107-00.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, September 8, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are sharing the appended video evidence depicting multiple suspects shooting into a residence near the 2400 block of Richard Rozzelle Drive which resulted in the death of a three-year-old child. Detectives ask anyone who recognizes the vehicle(s) or suspect(s) in the videos to report it, immediately.
Shortly before midnight last night, multiple suspects fired nearly 150 rounds into a house occupied by 11 victims. During the incident, Asiah Figueroa, DOB: 12/18/2017, was struck and fatally wounded during the incident. His four-year-old sister was also struck by gunfire, but is expected to survive.
