Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Westover Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, December 1, 2024) – Upon review of physical evidence on scene this case has now been determined to be a homicide.
The victim in this case has been identified as Demond Kente Dixon, 44. The victim’s family has been notified of his death.
As a result of the quick response by Westover Division officers, Belton Lamont Platt, 38, was identified as a person of interest shortly after arriving on scene.
Mr. Platt was transported voluntarily to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown (601 E. Trade St.) to speak to detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Platt was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Murder.
The victim’s next of kin have been notified of the arrest.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, November 28, 2024) – Just before 6:30 p.m., patrol officers responded to a call for a welfare check in the 2300 block of West Boulevard. When the male subject was located by officers, he was unresponsive. Medic transported the male to Atrium Main where they were pronounced deceased. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit is now conducting a death investigation in the 2300 block of West Boulevard in the Westover Division.
