Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the University City Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, September 21, 2023) – The victim in this case has been identified as Li Y (DOB: 03/24/1997).

 

As a result of the continued investigation and the dedicated detective work of CMPD’s Homicide Unit, on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, detectives identified and interviewed a person of interest in connection to this case.  At the conclusion of the interview, Joshua Garmon (DOB: 11/20/1999), was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with the following:

 

  • Murder
  • Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon

 

The victim’s next of kin has been notified of the arrest.

 

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office. Homicide Investigation in the University City Division

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, April 23, 2020) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation near the intersection of Paces Oaks Boulevard at E. WT Harris Boulevard in the University City Division.

 

On Thursday, April 23, 2020, at around 3:20 p.m., officers responded to a report of a male being shot. When they arrived, they located a male victim with an apparent gunshot wound, lying beside a vehicle in the roadway on Paces Oaks Boulevard at the intersection of E. WT Harris Boulevard. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene.

 

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives of the CMPD’s Operations Command, K-9 Unit, RTCC, CFD, and Medic also responded to the scene.
