Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the University City Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, July 14, 2023) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit have identified two suspects in connection to the murder of Savion Rashaad Lockhart.
On Thursday, July 13, 2023, the CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) arrested a 17-year-old juvenile suspect and Reginald Marsaeus Moses (DOB: 02/12/2004). Both suspects were transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown to be interviewed by detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Moses was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and the 17-year-old juvenile suspect was transferred into the custody of a Juvenile Detention Center. Both suspects were charged with the following:
- Murder
- Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon
- Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon
The victim’s next of kin has been notified of the arrests.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, July 9, 2023) – The victim in this case has been identified as Savion Rashaad Lockhart (DOB: 08/22/2005). The victim’s family has been notified of his death.

On Saturday, July 8, shortly before 7:00 p.m., officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service in the 2400 block of Turtle Point Road. Two victims were transported using private vehicles to area hospitals. One victim was pronounced deceased upon arrival to the hospital and the second victim has non-life-threatening injuries.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command and Victim Services also assisted.
