Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Steele Creek Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, December 11, 2024) – As a result of continued investigation in the death of Christopher Saneth Rosa Castellanos, 25, detectives with Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Violent Crime Apprehension Team (VCAT), CMPD’s Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT), Eastway Division Patrol and CMPD’s Canine Unit located and arrested two suspects.

In the process of locating a juvenile suspect, a person of interest was identified and arrested. Dagoberto Zelaya, 18, and a juvenile suspect were transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) and interviewed by homicide detectives.

At the conclusion of these interviews, the juvenile was transferred into custody at the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice, while Zelaya was transferred into custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. The suspects were charged with the following:

Juvenile:

  • Murder
  • Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle
  • Larceny of a Motor Vehicle (2)

Dagoberto Zelaya:

  • Murder
  • Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle

The victims next of kin have been notified of these arrests.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, December 9, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 650 block of Archdale Drive in the Steele Creek Division.

On Monday, December 9, 2024, shortly before 6:00 a.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Injury call for service in the 650 block of Archdale Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim with an apparent gunshot wound.  MEDIC pronounced the victim deceased on scene.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services and CFD also responded to assist.
