Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the North Tryon Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, August 8, 2024) – As a result of continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have identified another suspect in this case and obtained warrants for his arrest.

On Thursday, August 8, 2024, detectives arrested Jonathan Rivera, 20, for his involvement in this case. He was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown (601 E. Trade St.) to speak to detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Rivera was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives have charged Rivera with the following:

Murder
Attempted Murder
Armed Robbery
Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery
First Degree Burglary
Assault with a Deadly Weapon Intent to Kill or Inflict Serious Injury

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office. Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, August 7, 2024) – As a result of this continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have identified Kevin Jeremy Zetino, 19, and Adilio Cesar Garcia Lemus, 24, as suspects in this case.

On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, detectives arrested Mr. Zetino for his involvement in this case. He was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown (601 E. Trade St.) to speak to detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Zetino was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

On Wednesday, August 7, 2024, detectives arrested Mr. Lemus for his involvement with this case. At the conclusion of Mr. Lemus’ interview, he was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Attempted Murder
Armed Robbery
Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery
First Degree Burglary
Assault with a Deadly Weapon Intent to Kill or Inflict Serious Injury

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, August 5, 2024) – The victim in this case has been identified as Jose Octavio Cruz, 57. The victim’s family has been notified of his death.

Homicide Investigation in the North Tryon Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, August 3, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 3500 block of Shamrock Drive in the North Tryon Division.

On Friday, August 2, shortly after 11:30 p.m., officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service in the 3500 block of Shamrock Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered four victims with gunshot wounds.

Two subjects were located in the roadway with life-threatening injuries and were transported to an area hospital for treatment. Two additional victims were located with life-threatening injuries at a nearby residence. One of those victims was pronounced deceased on the scene by Medic.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services and CFD also assisted.
