Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the North Tryon Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, November 21, 2024) – As a result of the continued investigation into the death of Ronnie Leon Ruth, 53, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) and CMPD’s Special Weapons and Tactics team (SWAT) located and arrested Sharrieff Ellis Gray, 52. Mr. Gray was brought to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) and interviewed by homicide detectives.
At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Gray was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with the following:
First degree murder.
Mr. Ruth’s next of kin have been notified of the arrest.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, November 20, 2024) – The deceased victim in this case has been identified as Anthony Zellars, 29. The victim’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, November 19, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 400 block of West Arrowhead Road in the North Tryon Division.
On Tuesday, November 19, shortly after 10:45 a.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call for service in the 400 block of West Arrowhead Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim with a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by CMPD officers.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services and CFD also responded to assist.
