Crime Stoppers: Public’s Assistance Requested in Homicide Investigation in the Eastway Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, September 27, 2024) – On Thursday, September 26, 2024, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Eastway Division officers located Khyre’ Jamaal Grier deceased at 1720 Eastcrest Drive. This incident is being investigated as a Homicide. Homicide Detectives need your help to identify the suspect pictured below and solve this crime.

Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Eastway Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, September 27, 2024) – The victim in this case has been identified as: Khyre’ Jamaal Grier, 25. The victim’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified and obtained arrest warrants for Fabio Herminio Funes, 49, in connection to the murder of Mr. Grier.
On Thursday, September 26, Mr. Funes was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown (601 E. Trade St.) to speak to detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Funes was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Murder.
Mr. Grier’s next of kin has been notified of the arrest.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office. Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, September 26, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 1700 block of Eastcrest Drive in the Eastway Division.
On Thursday, September 26, shortly after 7:30 a.m., officers responded to a check the welfare call for service in the 1700 block of Eastcrest Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim with a gunshot wound. MEDIC pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services and CFD also responded to assist.
