CMPD’s Homicide Unit Concludes Investigation into Officer-Involved Shooting involving Pineville PD

 

Charlotte, N.C. - (Tuesday, July 2, 2024) – Today, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit announced the conclusion of its investigation into an officer-involved shooting incident involving the Pineville Police Department on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.  The CMPD’s Homicide Unit solely investigated any potential criminal aspects of the case.

 

Following an extensive investigation, CMPD investigators have determined the shooting was justified, and no charges will be filed in this case.

 

On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, a Pineville Police Department sworn employee perceived an imminent deadly threat and fired their service weapon striking a shoplifting suspect, Dennis Bodden, 46. Mr. Bodden received emergency medical aid on scene and was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

 

A concurrent internal investigation is being conducted by the Pineville Police Department. 

 

CMPD consulted with the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office, which agreed with the findings.
