Barricaded Subject in the Metro Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, July 6, 2023) – Members of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s SWAT Unit and officers from CMPD’s Metro Division successfully resolved a SWAT situation involving a barricaded subject in the 1800 block of Crawford Drive in the Metro Division.
On Thursday, July 6, 2023, at approximately 7:30 a.m., officers responded to a residence in the 1800 block of Crawford Drive in reference to an attempt to locate call for service. Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with a wanted individual inside the home, however, the individual remained inside of the residence. The subject was also believed to be armed with a firearm.
Shortly before 11:30 a.m., CMPD’s SWAT Unit responded to the scene to assist Metro Division officers. SWAT Unit members gained entry to the home following multiple commands for the subject to come out. Once inside, officers searched the home until the wanted subject was located in the attic by members of the SWAT Unit.
The subject, identified as Rico King (DOB: 10/07/1979), was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Law Enforcement Center in Uptown for questioning. At the conclusion of the interview, he will be transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with the following: Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill and Kidnapping (2nd Degree).
Representatives from the Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also assisted.
