Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, June 24, 2024) – Today, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) released body-worn camera (BWC) video footage of an officer-involved shooting incident in the Metro Division that occurred on February 8, 2024. This footage was ordered for release by a judge following a court petition.
On February 8, 2024, at approximately 10:47 a.m., Metro Division officers responded to an armed subject call for service in the 2100 block of Beatties Ford Road. This area was being actively monitored by surveillance cameras used by CMPD’s Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) as part of the department’s crime reduction initiatives. During this time, members of the RTCC observed a male subject on the video surveillance remove a firearm, which had been concealed within the waistband of his clothing and manipulate the firearm before further concealing it back into his clothing. RTCC notified officers of the armed subject prior to their arrival on scene.
Upon arrival, officers exited their patrol vehicles and observed what appeared to be a drug transaction between the armed subject, Timothy Deangelo Moore, 33, and another individual in the parking lot of the 2100 block of Beatties Ford. As officers approached, Mr. Moore, who is known to Metro Division officers, fled the area on foot.
Officers issued multiple verbal commands for Mr. Moore to show his hands. During the short foot pursuit, the Mr. Moore retrieved a firearm from his waistband and turned his body in the direction of the officer. The officer perceived an imminent and lethal threat and fired a single shot at Mr. Moore, causing him to fall to the ground. Officers quickly placed Mr. Moore into custody, recovered the firearm and began to render medical aid.
The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC responded to the scene. MEDIC transported Mr. Moore to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
No officers were injured in this incident.
Upon Mr. Moore’s release from the hospital, he was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with the following: Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Resisting a Public Officer and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
Mr. Moore has since been released from the Mecklenburg County Jail.
Any additional inquiries in reference to this case should be directed to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI) as the lead investigative agency in this incident.
