Update: Assault with a Deadly Weapon Investigation in Freedom Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, September 19, 2024) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Freedom Division identified Mr. Demetrick McDonald, 19, as a suspect in this case and obtained warrants for his arrest.  

On Wednesday, September 18, CMPD’s Crime Gun Suppression Team (CGST) arrested Mr. McDonald without incident.  He has been charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling (20 counts) and Conspiracy.  Mr. McDonald is currently in the Mecklenburg County Jail.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon Investigation in the Freedom Division

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, September 15, 2024) - Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are conducting an assault with a deadly weapon investigation in the 5000 block of Evoke Living Lane in the Freedom Division.

On Sunday, September 15, 2024, at approximately 1:40 a.m., Freedom Division officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call for service in the 5000 block of Evoke Living Lane. Upon arrival, officers discovered multiple apartment homes that had been struck by gunfire. Officers also located a 2-year-old female victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in one of the residences.  Officers immediately began rendering lifesaving medical aid to the child and transported the victim in a CMPD patrol vehicle to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.  The victim is currently listed in stable condition.

Division Detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD's Operations Command, MEDIC, and the Charlotte Fire Department also assisted.
