Case Update: Assault with a Deadly Weapon Investigation in the Central Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, April 17, 2023) – The suspect in this case has been identified as Kashif Simmons (DOB 04/02/1986). Simmons is charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill/Inflict Serious Injury, and Discharging a Firearm in City Limits.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, April 16, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are conducting an Assault with a Deadly Weapon investigation in the 300 block of S. Church Street in the Central Division.
On Sunday, April 16, 2023, shortly before 4:00 p.m., officers working in the area of 300 S. Church Street (Romare Bearden Park) heard gunshots in the area and immediately began to circulate for the source of the gunfire. Officers located two subjects in the park who had sustained gunshot wounds. Officers also quickly located and apprehended the suspect in this incident. MEDIC responded and transported the victims to local hospitals.
A firearm was recovered from the scene. At this time, officers are not currently looking for any other suspects.
Detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command and the Charlotte Fire Department also assisted.
