Case Update: Armed Subject with Suspicious Item Investigation in the Central Division

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, September 5, 2023) – The suspect in this case has been identified as Jayden Henderson (DOB 07/07/2004). Henderson’s charges include Assault on a Government Official or Employee, Resist/Delay/Obstruct, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

Armed Subject with Suspicious Item Investigation in the Central Division

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, September 2, 2023) – Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Bomb Squad Unit successfully rendered safe a suspicious device in the Central Division.

 

Shortly before 6:00 p.m., on Saturday, September 2, 2023, Central Division officers were apprehending an armed suspect in the 200 block of E. 4th Street near the Transit Center.  During the apprehension, the suspect discarded a gun, knives, and other items.  While searching the suspect’s backpack, officers located what they believed to be an explosive device. 

  

Out of an abundance of caution, officers immediately evacuated the area and notified Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Bomb Squad Unit.  Multiple Charlotte Fire Department Units were dispatched and assisted with securing the area as well.

 

Upon arrival, CMPD’s Bomb Squad Unit was able to successfully render the package safe.  In addition, CMPD K-9 Patrol Units, CMPD K-9 Airport Units, and Gaston County K-9 Units all assisted with canvassing the area to search for additional suspicious devices.  No additional suspicious devices were found.  CFD’s Hazardous Materials Team, CMPD’s Operations Command, and MEDIC all assisted. 

 

The suspect is facing charges of Resist/Delay/Obstruct, Assault on a Government Official, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon (firearm).
