Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Steele Creek Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, February 1, 2024) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified and obtained arrest warrants for a suspect in connection to this case.

 

On Wednesday, January 31, 2024, the CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) arrested German Pacheco (DOB: 11/14/2003) and transported him to the Law Enforcement Center in Uptown (601 E. Trade St.) to be interviewed by detectives.  At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Pacheco was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with the following:

 

  • Murder
  • Attempted Murder
  • Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill or Inflict Serious Injury

 

The victims’ next of kin have been notified of the arrest.

Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Steele Creek Division

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, January 29, 2024) On Saturday, January 27, 2024, Yara Velasquez-Escobar (DOB: 05/20/2002), was pronounced deceased by medical staff at a local hospital.  The victim’s next of kin has been notified of her death.

 

This case is now being investigated as a homicide.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Injury Investigation in the Steele Creek Division

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, January 26, 2024) Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are conducting an Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Injury investigation in the 1100 block of Lake Mist Drive in the Steele Creek Division.

 

On Thursday, January 26, 2024, shortly after 10:30 p.m., officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the 1100 block of Lake Mist Drive for an Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Injury call for service. Upon arrival, officers located one adult male victim, one adult female victim and one juvenile female victim who had sustained gunshot wounds. All three victims were transported by MEDIC to a local hospital with serious injuries.

 

Detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Investigations responded to process the scene.  Representatives from the CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, MEDIC, Charlotte Fire Department and Child Development – Community Policing Unit also assisted.
