Hawthorne Lane Bridge Closure
July 24, 2017 to March 31, 2019
**UPDATE: Bridge construction is currently paused. The bridge is currently out. A timeframe for bridge reconstruction is currently unconfirmed. For additional information on this component of the project pelase call CATS Customer Service at 704-336-RIDE (7433).
Hawthorne Lane, between Bay Street and Hawthorne Bridge Court, will close on Monday, July 24, 2017 at 9 a.m. until approximately Sunday, March 31, 2019 at 6 p.m. This closure is necessary for preparation work, bridge demolition and bridge reconstruction as part of CityLYNX Gold Line Phase 2 construction.
Additionally, Northbound Hawthorne Lane between East 7th Street and Bay Street, will close during this same timeframe to accommodate the bridge closure.
Motorists should utilize East 7th Street and Central Avenue as the detour. This road will be closed to all through traffic.

Park Drive, between Hawthorne Lane and Lamar Avenue
Park Dr., between Hawthorne Lane and Lamar Avenue will close to thru traffic on Mon, March 25 at 9 a.m. until Monday, July 29 at 6 a.m. for preparation work and track installation. In conjunction with this there will be lane shifts along Hawthorne Ln. between 5th and 7th St. that will begin on Monday, March 18, 2018 at 9 a.m. Two-Way Traffic will be maintained along Hawthorne Ln.
HISTORIC WEST END
The following map can be used as reference for Historic West End & Uptown closures.
W. Trade St. between Rozzelles Ferry / W. 5th St. and I-77 N Connector Rd.
W. Trade St. between S. Bruns Ave. and Frazier Ave. will remain One Way Traffic heading Eastbound only.\
W. Trade St. between Frazier Ave. and I-77 N Connector Rd. will remain Two Way Traffic
- Wesley Heights Way at Trade St. will re-open on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 6:00 AM.
- Once Wesley Heights Reopens:
S. Bruns Ave. at Trade St. will close on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 9:00 AM and will be restored Monday, March 11, 2019 at 6:00 AM.
Detour: Heading Northbound on S. Bruns Ave., Right on Duckworth Ave., Left on Wesley Heights Way
W. Trade St. between Rozzelles Ferry Rd. / W. 5th St. and S. Bruns will become One Way Traffic heading Eastbound only.
Irwin / Johnson & Wales Way and W. Trade St. Intersection
Irwin / Johnson & Wales Way and W. Trade St. Intersection will be closed during the following dates:
Friday, January 25, 2019 at 7:00 PM to Monday, January 28, 2019 at 6:00 AM
Detours: Right on Graham, Left on W. 6th St., Right on W. 5th St. Or Right on Cedar St., Left on W. 5th St.
W. Trade St. between Graham St. and Tryon St.
W. Trade St. between Graham St. and Tryon St. will have single lane closures in each direction.
Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled, and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets when planned. When this occurs, City traffic engineers work directly with other City staff and contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public.
Pedestrians walking near work zone areas should be alert, cautious and allow extra traveling time. It is advised they cross at signalized intersections, use pedestrian walk signals where available and abide by detour signage.
Motorists traveling through work zone areas should be alert and extra cautious. Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone. Drivers should double their following distance.
