CityLYNX Gold Line Phase 2 construction is currently underway! Visit the project webpage for construction and road closure information. 

The CityLYNX Gold Line is a 10-mile (37 stop) streetcar system that is an integral part of the 2030 Transit Corridor System Plan and is being built in phases.  The full streetcar line will connect all current and future rapid transit lines, including the LYNX Blue Line light rail, LYNX Silver Line light rail, LYNX Red Line commuter rail and provide a critical connection to the future Charlotte Gateway District and Multimodal Station. 

Phase 1

Phase 1 of the CityLYNX Gold Line streetcar opened in 2015 to ridership above projections. The 1.5-mile route from Center City serves the Charlotte Transportation Center, CPCC, and Novant Hospital providing a total of 6 stops while connecting to the LYNX Blue Line light rail.  Learn how to ride! 


Phase 2

Phase 2 is currently under construction and is expected to open to revenue service In early 2021.

This phase extends the current streetcar line from the Charlotte Transportation Center west to French Street in the Historic West End and east from Novant Hospital to Sunnyside Avenue in Elizabeth.

  • Art integration into stop shelters and vehicles
  • Realignment of Frazier Avenue in West End
  • Reconstruction of Hawthorne Lane Bridge in Elizabeth

Phase 3

Future phases of the streetcar require additional funding to design and construct.

Streetcar service will provide connections to hundreds of key cultural destinations and employment centers in-and-around Charlotte.

  • Over 2,000 small businesses within ¼ mile of the line
  • Phase 1 of the Gold Line has spurred millions of dollars in surrounding private development
  • Upon completion of 10-mile system, property tax values are expected to increase up to $7 million
  • Anticipated 21,800 sq. ft of new retail space and 276,700 sq. ft. of new office space
