Connecting east and west Charlotte with destinations throughout Uptown, the streetcar line will bring Center City together like never before. The alignment will serve as a critical economic development tool to focus growth along key corridors and linking neighborhoods to community destinations, such as entertainment, educational institutions and employment opportunities. Upon completion the CityLYNX Gold Line will also connect with all current and future rapid transit lines including the LYNX Blue Line, Red Line, Sliver Line and the West Corridor.
Reminiscent of Charlotte's trolley lines in the early 20th century, the CityLYNX Gold Line will provide a modern, emission-free, high-capacity transportation alternative.
The construction of the Streetcar Starter Project is currently underway. This 1.5 mile service from Center City will serve CPCC, Novant Hospital and over 2,000 small businesses near the line. Phase 1 will have six stops, including a connection to the LYNX Blue Line. Completion is scheduled for 2015.
Phase 2 will extend the project from the Charlotte Transportation Center west to French Street beyond Johnson C. Smith University and east from Novant Hospital to Sunnyside Ave. Construction of phase 2 is planned for 2016 with an anticipated service start date of 2019.
