  • Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) was formed in 2000.

  • CATS operates the largest transit system between Washington, D.C. and Atlanta. 

  • CATS serves 72,678 weekday daily trips. (FY2019)

  • CATS operates 300 Buses with 66 bus routes. (FY2019)

  • CATS fleet of buses traveled more than 13.2 million miles in FY2019.

  • CATS has 52 hybrid electric buses in its fleet.

  • CATS operates more than 20 light rail vehicles.

  • CATS has 45 active vanpools. (FY 2019)

  • CATS' LYNX Blue Line is the first rapid transit line in North Carolina. 

  • The LYNX Blue Line is 18.9 miles long and operates from I-485 at South Boulevard, through Center-City Charlotte, to the University of North Carolina Charlotte main campus. 

  • CATS' Special Transportation Service (STS) provides door-to-door transportation for individuals who are certified according to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  In FY2019, STS operated 84 vehicles and provided 230,687 rides.

  • In partnership with Novant Health and the Federal Transit Administration, CATS has provided over 28,000 cloth face masks to riders during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • The LYNX Blue Line has generated more than $3.2 billion in economic development.

  • The LYNX Blue Line Extension has generated over $1 billion in economic development between Uptown and UNC Charlotte.
