RNC Transit Services Impacts

 

Due to the Republican National Convention (RNC), the following routes are scheduled to detour beginning Sunday, August 23rd, 2020 through Monday, August 24th, 2020. During this time, CATS will continue to operate on the modified schedule implemented on June 8th, 2020. 


 Bus Icon Local Bus Service Impacts 

 

Sprinter (5)/ Route 35 Wilkinson-Amazon: 

Inbound service traveling to Uptown will follow the regular routing up until Morehead and Mint St. From there, buses will follow I-277 and Caldwell St. to continue to the Charlotte Transportation Center (CTC). Riders who typically board/alight at stops located at College & Stonewall and College & 3rd can board/alight at the bus stop on Caldwell & 3rd as an alternate.  

Outbound service leaving the CTC will follow 4th St. and Church St. before continuing the regular routing via Stonewall St. Riders who typically board/alight on Brevard St., or Stonewall St. between Brevard and Church can utilize the following stops as alternates:

  • 4th & College
  • 4th & Tryon
  • 4th & Church
  • Church & 3rd
  • Church & 1st

 

Route 16 South Tryon:

Inbound service traveling to Uptown will follow the regular routing until reaching Carson Blvd. From there, buses will detour using Carson Blvd., South Blvd., S. Caldwell St., & E. 4th St. to travel to the CTC. Riders who typically board/alight along S. College St. may do so at the detour stop on S. Caldwell & 3rd.

Outbound service leaving Uptown will follow the regular routing.

Express Bus Service Impacts

 

Independence Express Routes PM Service – 40x, 46x, 52x, 64x, 65x, 74x

Outbound trips leaving Uptown in the afternoon/evening will detour between S. Graham St. & W. 4th St. and E. 3rd St. & W. College St. Service along S. Graham St., W. Stonewall St., & College St. south of 3rd will be temporarily discontinued. Riders who typically board/alight at the College & 2nd and College & 3rd St. stops may board/alight at the next closest stop on College & 4th. All other outbound stops/routing will remain in service.

All other trips along these routes will follow the regular routing.

MetroRAPID Routes PM Service – 48x, 53x, 63x, 77x

Outbound afternoon/evening trips leaving Uptown will utilize E. 4th & College St. before continuing to I-277.  Service along S. Brevard, E. Stonewall, & S. College between E. Stonewall and E. 4th St. will be temporarily discontinued. Riders who typically board/alight at the Brevard & MLK, College & 2nd, & College & 3rd St. stops may utilize express stops along E. 4th St. and along College St. north of E. 4th St.

Inbound service will follow the regular routing.

 

    LYNX Blue Lin​e   

LYNX Blue Line Service Impacts

 

The LYNX Blue Line will not be operating service between Carson Station and 7th Street Station.  Riders who wish to continue their trip to Uptown from 7th St. or Carson Stations will disembark the train and will continue onto the bus bridge. Regular LYNX Blue Line service will remain between the I-485 Station & Carson Station and again from the 7th St. Station to UNC Charlotte Main Station.

 How do I pay?

Regular local fare is required, and transfers are provided upon request once fare is paid.  Tickets can be purchased at LYNX stations from the ticket vending machines.  If you are paying with cash on the bus, you'll need to have exact change.  The bus driver cannot make change and the fareboxes do not accept credit cards.  You may also choose to pay via the CATS PASS mobile app.  Remember to activate your ticket and show it to the bus operator as you board.  

  Customers should also note the pickup and drop off location for Rt. 20 will be moved inside the transit center to Bay K.
