​Harris Houston Road & University City Boulevard

A new traffic signal has been approved by the North Carolina Department of Transportation for installation at the intersection of Harris Houston Road and University City Boulevard.  The signal is being installed to accommodate existing traffic, to provide pedestrian and bicycle crossings of University City Boulevard and to better manage the flow of traffic along University City Boulevard.

Will there be a left turn arrow? 

Yes, a left turn arrow will be installed for the northbound University City Boulevard left turn onto Harris Houston Road.

Will there be any crosswalks and pedestrian signals? 

Yes, a crosswalk across Harris Houston will be installed along with pedestrian signals.  No crosswalks or pedestrian signals to cross University City Boulevard will be provided because there is no sidewalk on the railroad side of University City Boulevard. 

Where is the money for the signal coming from? 

Currently, this signal is unfunded.

Will any additional road construction take place before the signal is installed? 


When will the signal be operational? 

Once funding is in place, it is usually 9-12 months before the signal can be designed and installed.
