Colonial Avenue and Randolph Road

A new traffic signal has been approved by the Charlotte Department of Transportation for installation at the intersection of Colonial Avenue and Randolph Road. The signal is being installed to accommodate existing and future traffic, to provide improved pedestrian and bicycle crossings of Randolph Road and to create a more efficient road network in the area.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will there be left turn arrows?

No, the current left turn volume at the intersection does not justify the installation of left turn phases.

Will there be crosswalks and pedestrian signals?

Yes, crosswalks and pedestrian signals will be installed for crossing all legs of the intersection.

Where is the money for the signal coming from?

Currently, this signal is unfunded.

Will any additional road construction take place before the signal is installed?

The preferred installation will have left turn lanes constructed on Randolph Road, however, it is possible to signalize the intersection and restrict the left turns on Randolph Road by time of day.

When will the signal be operational?

Once funding is in place, it is usually 9-12 months before the signal can be designed and installed.
