 Project updates

Construction was completed in the summer of 2022 and the project is now in the warranty phase. The project team will monitor the new infrastructure for any possible defects. Landscaping efforts have started with some of the trees in the planting strips. Artwork is expected to be installed in early 2023, with the reamining landscaping in the center of the roundabout following shortly behind.

 

 Project updates

"Tapestry" by Douwe Blumberg​​​​This project targets a five-legged intersection controlled by a traffic signal with excessive wait times. The project is located at the five-legged intersection where Tuckaseegee and Berryhill each have two legs, and Thrift has one leg. The project will replace the signalized intersection with a roundabout. Additional project components include crosswalks, sidewalks, planting strips, landscaping and utility relocation.

  • ​To reduce vehicle idling time at the intersection

  • To improve air quality by expanding opportunities for bicycles and pedestrians

  • To provide opportunities for street tree planting while protecting and incorporating existing trees

  • To provide opportunities for decorative lighting on both sides of the street ​

​Three public meetings were held during the planning phase to get input from nearby ​residents​ and businesses.

$5.65 million
This amount includes more than $3 million from federal grant programs.

 

​​​Please note this is the funding amount and includes all costs associated with the project such as planning and design, acquiring the right of way, utility relocation, consultant fees, construction, signalization, permits and landscaping.
