Sweden Road maintenance yard replacement

Part of the Capital Investment Plan

Project phase

 Project updates

This project will construct a new equipment maintenance facility to replace the existing facility on Sweden Road.

Construction of the new facility at a different location will accomplish two goals:

  1. It will replace an aging and inadequate facility. The current facility was built in 1955 and no longer has the capacity to serve as the primary maintenance facility supporting the maintenance of the City’s fire apparatus and other large public safety equipment.
  2. The current facility is located in a prime economic development corridor with significant redevelopment activity. Its location is adjacent to the LYNX Blue Line at the intersection of Sweden Road and South Boulevard between the Arrowood Road and Sharon Road West Transit Stations. The site’s current use as a vehicle maintenance facility is no longer the highest and best use of the property, and moving the City’s operations to another location will open the property to the private sector, further enhancing the economic redevelopment in the area.

Community engagement activities will occur throughout the project’s duration to keep those interested in the project informed and provide opportunities for the public to share ideas, opinions and concerns. Public meeting dates will be posted on this page once they are determined.

Project funding will come from proposed non-bond debt financing for public safety and other municipal facilities

  • $3.1 million in 2018 for planning and design

  • $19.5 million in 2020 for construction

The Capital Investment Plan approved by City Council in 2013 calls for voters to consider approval of funding for a number of infrastructure programs. Voters approved bond financing in 2014, 2016 and 2018 and will vote on further bond financing in 2020. For this project, City staff engages the community to determine the details of what will ultimately be built. Once these details are known, the cost of the project is estimated and published.
