 Project updates

In November 2014, voters approved $20 million for the Comprehensive Neighborhood Improvement Program (CNIP). The Shamrock/Plaza/Matheson intersection redesign project was selected as one of the projects to move forward under the Central/Albemarle/Shamrock CNIP

This project will look at various intersection realignment options and costs to better connect the neighborhoods on either side of The Plaza, creating easier access to shopping along the corridor and into NoDa (North Davidson area) and the LYNX Blue Line. This study will refine the alignment options that would help make a more seamless multimodal corridor. Once a final alignment is determined, the project team will seek funding to construct.

  • To maintain, stabilize and revitalize the neighborhood through comprehensive infrastructure improvements

  • To strengthen the neighborhood and surrounding community

  • To create a pedestrian and bicycle link between East Charlotte and the Cross Charlotte Trail

Community engagement activities will occur throughout the project’s duration to keep those interested in the project informed and provide opportunities for the public to share ideas, opinions and concerns. Public meetings will be posted on this page once they are scheduled.

To be determined

The General Services project team will manage the realignment study through a one-year process with input from Neighborhood & Business Services, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, Charlotte Department of Transportation and other City departments as needed.
