 Project updates

This project will provide wayfinding improvements on Scofield Road and Wintercrest Lane to link bicyclists and pedestrians from Barclay Downs Drive with the Briar Creek Greenway, which will be built by Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation in the future. The greenway will provide connections to the Cross Charlotte Trail and Little Sugar Creek Greenway. Wayfinding and path amenities considered for the new connection may include signage, path delineation/markings, intersection treatments and bicycle parking.

  • To support an evolving mixed-use activity center

  • To improve bicycle and pedestrian access from neighborhoods

  • To create a "park-once" environment

  • To increase the quantity and quality of greenspace

  • To support economic vibrancy and strong sense of place

  • To leverage public and private investments

  • To capitalize on strategic partnerships

The project team has aggressively solicited input from residents and businesses in the SouthPark area and surrounding neighborhoods through the following activities:

  • April 10, 2018: SouthPark all-day event at Morrison Regional Library

  • January 23, 2018: Public all-day event at Morrison Regional Library

  • November 27-30 - Project development workshop at Hilton Garden Inn

  • October 2017 - Online survey

  • September 14, 2017 - CNIP kickoff meetings at Sharon Presbyterian Church

The Capital Investment Plan approved by City Council in 2013 calls for voters to consider approval of funding for a number of infrastructure programs. Voters approved bond financing in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020. For this project, City staff engages the community to determine the details of what will ultimately be built. Once these details are known, the cost of the project is estimated and published. Learn more about the Capital Investment Plan at
