The Briar Creek Road Connector project developed out of the City’s Independence Area Sidewalk and Bikeway Improvements (ISB) program to provide pedestrian and bicycle improvements that will enhance neighborhood mobility and accessibility to transit and provide community and economic resources throughout the Independence Boulevard Corridor.
The ISB program evaluated the existing pedestrian and bicycle conditions within the study area to improve connectivity and transportation choices and support revitalization and well-being. Out of the study, 27 projects were evaluated against the goals of the program and public support via a comprehensive evaluation process. Four recommended projects were identified for future design along the North and South Independence Boulevard corridor, and the Briar Creek Road connector was one of the four projects.
This project extends from Commonwealth Avenue, south along Briar Creek Road, across Independence Boulevard, and on to Television Place and Washburn Avenue to Monroe Road. The project will include wider sidewalk on one or both sides and possible bicycle lanes and/or shared-lane markings (sharrows).
