Water Replacement Project for South Tryon Street near Clanton Road

  • CLTWater is planning to replace existing 2-inch galvanized steel pipe (GSP) water mains with new 2-inch, 6-inch, and 8-inch water mains within the areas listed below:
  • Area includes:
    • South Tryon Street (3000 to 3900 blocks)
    • Bank Street (3000 block)
    • Foster Avenue
    • May Street (3100 block)
    • Blairhill Road
    • Ellenwood Place (3700 block)
  • Construction may start in late 2018 or early 2019 and take an estimated 6 months to complete
  • More than 5,000 linear feet of pipe will be replaced during the project.
  • CLTWater will replace pipe under the road and road right-of-way that is past its useful life.
  • Staff will notify affected customers of planned water outages 72-hours in advance.
    • Any unplanned water outages are considered emergencies and will be repaired as soon as possible.
  • Construction may cause temporary cloudy, discolored water or lower than usual pressure. If you experience this, please run cold water for up-to 15 minutes. If water doesn't clear, please call 311 and say or select 'water emergency' for assistance.
  • Project includes restoration of affected sidewalks and roadways
  • Typical construction zone is a few street blocks.
  • Lane closures may be required daily in coordination with CDOT. 
    • CLTWater works with CDOT and NCDOT to minimize traffic disruption.
    • CDOT permitted road closures are posted on the CDOT's website.
  • Updates will be posted on this website and NextDoor.
  • In the effort to maintain quality service, CLTWater must occasionally replace water mains.
  • Replacing pipes under the road right-of-way and service lines (between pipe under the street to water meter) reduce future leaks/repairs due to age.
  • Project will enhance water quality and pressure.
​Areas near construction were notified before construction. There will be planned water outages to move customer’s services to new pipes. Property owners will be notified in advance. If there are unplanned water outage, crews will work to fix it immediately.​​
