 Project updates

This project will connect the existing Shade Valley Road and Oakhurst Commons Drive intersection with the intersection at Monroe Road at Commodore Street. The two intersections will be reconfigured and reconstructed into a roundabout.

  • To improve pedestrian mobility between adjoining neighborhoods

  • To improve access to local retailers in the Oakhurst, Amity Gardens and surrounding communities

  • To improve vehicular traffic flow

This project is part of the Land Acquisition and Street Connections program, which originally comprised six projects. Among those projects was the Pierson Drive Extension, which was the only project fully funded for planning and design. After two public meetings and an online poll, the selection of the Pierson Drive concept was delayed by staff until the City and neighborhood goals were better understood. The Pierson Drive Extension project was put on hold.

In June of 2017, staff hosted the Monroe Road Area Vision Workshop, during which five conceptual design alignments for the Pierson Drive Extension were presented. All of them faced significant opposition, so staff was instructed to revisit the design. This led to staff changing the scope of from the original alignment of the Pierson Drive Extension to the Oakhurst/Amity Gardens Street Connectivity project.

In 2018, the concepts for the Shade Valley  Realignment and Roundabout Project and the Oakhurst/Amity Gardens Multiuse Path were shared with the public. The project team is moving forward with the design of both of these concepts.
