This project will construct a new equipment maintenance facility off of Orr Road in northeast Charlotte. The City-owned site is located between two City operational yards: Street Maintenance and Water and Sewer. The Northeast Maintenance Facility will be the first combination (heavy & light vehicles) maintenance shop constructed by the City.
To provide greater flexibility in maintenance to City operations in that quadrant of the City
To reduce operational costs associated with transporting equipment to maintenance facilities on other parts of the City, resulting in less crew downtime, increased flexibility in service delivery and reduced environmental impact on the community
Funding of $8.6 million provided by proposed non-bond debt financing for public safety and other municipal facilities
$2.1 million in 2016 for planning and design
$6.5 million in 2018 for construction
The Capital Investment Plan approved by City Council in 2013 calls for voters to consider approval of funding for a number of infrastructure programs. Voters approved bond financing in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020. For this project, City staff engages the community to determine the details of what will ultimately be built. Once these details are known, the cost of the project is estimated and published. Learn more about the Capital Investment Plan at http://charlottefuture.com
