This project originated from the Northeast Corridor Infrastructure Program (NECI) planning effort. The project will provide improved access to the 36th Street transit station from both Tryon and North Davidson Streets. The project concept includes intersection improvements that will enhance safety such as high-visibility crosswalks, reduced crossing distances, pedestrian signals, ADA ramps and pedestrian refuges. In addition, the project proposes upgraded street and sidewalk improvements along 36th street between North Tryon and Davidson Streets.
The conceptual cross section includes two travel lanes, bike lanes, on-street parking , curb & gutter, sidewalk, planting strip and street trees. The project will adjoin the Blue Line Extension project on 36th Street.
