Project phase

 Project updates

The Monroe Road Streetscape project team evaluated improvements to the Monroe Road corridor between Briar Creek Road and Sharon Amity Road to create a more pedestrian-friendly and mixed-use development corridor, as recommended by the Independence Boulevard Area Plan. As the design progressed and impacts and costs were evaluated, the section between Wendover Road and Ross Moore Avenue/Eaton Road was selected for construction of the preferred typical section, which includes a 10-foot-wide multiuse path and planting strip to separate the path from the roadway. Other improvements include new mid-block pedestrian crossings, new crosswalks and pedestrian signals at existing intersections and bus stop improvements.
  • To make the area more pedestrian-friendly

  • To improve green connections

  • To drive business investments

  • To create an additional point of pride for the neighborhood

With direction from Charlotte City Council, project teams seek input from the community in order to build better projects and provide better services. Often, this input comes from the public involvement process used when building capital projects. Neighborhood public meetings are conducted by project teams and consultants in order to solicit ideas from nearby businesses and residents affected by the project and identify their concerns. Upcoming meetings will be posted on this page and the Citywide events calendar.
