What to expect

Construction can be loud, dirty, and inconvenient. Crews will be using large excavators and storing materials on construction easements.

  • Clearing – Trees, shrubs, bushes and other vegetation within the construction easement area will be removed. Debris will be transported off-site.
  • Pipe delivery and storage – Pipes and other equipment are delivered and stored within the construction easements.
  • Establishing a safe work zone – Fencing will be put in place and pipe will be stabilized to prevent it from moving.
  • Trench digging.
  • Placing pipe and backfilling.
  • Customers may feel a rumble occasionally in September between 9 am and 4 pm
    • Crews may remove rock formations by blasting or rock hammers.
    • Property owners within the 500-foot radius of blast sites were contacted.
    • Blasting is a standard construction procedure and all safety precautions will be taken.
    • Residents may hear a warning horn and feel a slight vibration or rumble similar to a slammed door or thunder.
  • Construction traffic (excavators, dump trucks) in the easements and road right-of-way. Once the pipe is installed near your property, you may continue to see construction traffic along the easements until the pipe is tested, manholes are adjusted and restoration is complete.

  • The goal of this project is to increase capacity for present and future needs and to protect water quality in McAlpine Creek.
  • Charlotte Water (CLTWater) is adding wastewater pipes along McAlpine Creek from McAlpine Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in Pineville to Lawyers Road.
  • Phases 1-3 are complete
  • The McAlpine Creek Relief Sewer project was initiated in 2000 to address wet weather sewer overflows occurring in the existing McAlpine Creek drainage basin.

Properties that will be directly affected by construction will be contacted to discuss easement agreements. Areas near construction will be notified before construction.
