Charlotte Water is constructing a water main pipeline along Mallard Creek in the University area for an important reclaimed water project. Once completed, it will transport highly treated wastewater that is used for irrigation purposes. Reclaimed water is cleaner than the water flowing in waterways. While not suitable for drinking, it is a safe, less expensive alternative for meeting many irrigation needs.
The project construction consists of installing 300 linear feet of 24-inch pipe and 10,300 linear feet of 16-inch pipe within easements along Mallard Creek from N. Tryon Street and Pavilion Boulevard to Kirk Farm Fields and the northern edge of the UNC Charlotte campus.
