 Project updates

​​This project is part of the City's Intersection Capacity and Multimodal Enhancement Program, whose general purpose is to identify improvements at the Idlewild/Rama/Monroe intersection to enhance conditions for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users and motorists. 
  • ​To increase intersection capacity and level of service while improving travel conditions for all modes of transportation

  • To connect surrounding neighborhoods with existing and future neighborhood services

  • To support private economic development at this Independence corridor node

Community engagement activities will occur throughout the project's duration to keep those interested in the project informed and provide opportunities for the public to share ide​as, opinions and concerns. Below are the public meetings held to date:
 
November 7, 2019 - The project team hosted a public meeting at East Baptist Church to inform residents about what to expect during the real estate acquisition phase.
 
October 25, 2017 - The project team attended the Monroe Road Advocates (MoRA) Government 101 Workshop and presented the project in an open-house format and also shared an update in a short presentation​. 
 
October 4, 2017 - Project team members attended Taste of the World at the Charlotte Museum of History and showcased several Community Investment Plan projects on the east side, including this project.

March 8, 2017 - ​The project team hosted a public meeting at the Independence Regional Library to share the project plan and preliminary design concepts.

December 20, 2016 - January 31, 2017 - ​The public was given an opportunity to participate in an online public meeting​ to learn about the project and provide feedback.
