Dave McKinney Avenue Extension

Part of the Capital Investment Plan

Northeast Corridor Infrastructure Program

Project phase

 Project updates

This project will extend the Dave McKinney Avenue and create the opportunity for future development to provide parallel connectivity to Tryon Street from West Rocky River Road North to Carolyn Lane. Preliminary design will extend Dave McKinney Avenue from Rocky River Road West by 500 feet to the end of the school parking lot. In addition, the project team will complete a rough line/grade and acquire a right of way/permanent slope easement for the entire 850 feet of roadway needed to tie in to the Caldwell property. Final design and construction of the full 850 feet of roadway depends on the rezoning of the Caldwell parcel.

  • To improve pedestrian, bicycle and motorist access to the LYNX Blue Line

  • To make improvements for all modes of transportation – pedestrian, bicycle, vehicle, and transit

  • To promote economic development by providing infrastructure to support and encourage transit supportive development

As we move through the design phase, the public will be updated through the project webpage, electronic communications and postcards. Coordination between the City of Charlotte, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and potential developers is underway.

$8.801 million

Please note this is the funding amount and includes all costs associated with the project such as planning and design, acquiring the right of way, utility relocation, consultant fees, construction, signalization, permits and landscaping.
