Thomas Leroy Kirkpatrick (1915-1917)

Kirkpatrick served as Charlotte's Mayor from 1915 to 1917.

Kirkpatrick was an attorney and a gifted speaker.

  • 1922 saw a disastrous flood. More than 22 inches of rain fell in the mountains of North Carolina raising the waters of the Catawba River. Many factories and bridges were washed away in the flood.
  • The Ford assembly plant on East Sixth Street began producing T-Model Fords.
  • President Woodrow Wilson visited Charlotte to celebrate Mecklenburg Declaration Day.
  • Camp Greene was built as a World War Army base. Living and working in 1,000 tents and barracks, more than 60,000 soldiers passed through Charlotte during the war. Camp Greene was named for General Nathaniel Greene who defended Mecklenburg County from the British during the Revolutionary War.
