Robert F. Davidson (1862-1863)
Public Service:
Davidson was the Mayor Pro Tem who stepped in for Mayor William Owens after the beginning of the Civil War. He served one term.
Personal:
Davidson ran a store on West Trade Street opposite the U.S. Mint. The site is currently across West Trade Street from the Charles R. Jonas Federal Office Building.

During his Administration:
- North Carolina joined the Confederacy on May 20, 1861.
- Charlotte hosted the Confederate Navy Yard and its 1,500 workers. The Yard was destroyed by a mysterious fire in 1864.
- The North Carolina Military Institute became a Confederate hospital.
- A commissioner form of government was adopted. Elected officials consisted of a Mayor and four Commissioners elected from the town's four wards.
