R.J. Brevard (1891-1895)
Public Service:
Prior to becoming Charlotte's Mayor, Dr. Brevard served two terms as an alderman. He was Charlotte's Mayor from 1891 through 1895.
Personal:
Dr. Brevard was chief of staff at St. Peters Hospital. St. Peters was the forerunner of Carolinas Medical Center.
During his Administration:

- Electric trolley cars began operating in downtown Charlotte, replacing horse power.
- The Cherry neighborhood was developed for black families who wanted to move away from crowded downtown housing to an area where they could have gardens and yards.
- The Public Library was organized.
