James O. Walker (1921-1924)
Public Service:
Walker served as Charlotte's Mayor from 1921 to 1924.
Personal:
Walker was a funeral director and was popularly known as "Jimmy."
During his Administration:

- I.D. Blumenthal opens Radiator Specialties in 1923.
- The City bought the 600 block of East Trade Street in the heart of handsome old homes as the site for a new City Hall.
- Instead of moving into the building with City government, the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners decided to build a new courthouse in the 700 block of East Trade, extending the central business district east.
- Efird's Department Stores opened on North Tryon Street in 1923. It was the only store south of Philadelphia with escalators.
