CHARLOTTE, NC - Charlotte Mayor Dan Clodfelter issued a statement Wednesday saluting the members of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD). His message to the community is provided below:
“May 12-17 marks National Police Week, a time for us to celebrate the service and commitment of the officers and staff at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).  On behalf of our City Council and all of the citizens of Charlotte, I would like to express our sincere gratitude for each of the men and women who serve our city as part of CMPD.
Over 2400 officers and staff strive daily to protect the citizens and resources in our city. There are countless days when these individuals face dangerous circumstances as they put themselves on the line to ensure the safety of our communities.
We must also be sensitive to the daily sacrifices of their families. The physical, emotional and mental strain placed on the loved ones of our CMPD officers is a testament to the value of their work, as well as the need for our citizens to rally around them and show support for them every day. For the CMPD officers who have given the ultimate sacrifice of their lives, their families must deal with the process of grieving and healing from this great loss.
So today, I am encouraging all citizens to take a moment to stop and thank a CMPD officer, when you see him or her during your day.
Our CMPD officers and staff are some of Charlotte’s greatest heroes, and we appreciate their every effort to make our city a safe place to live, work, learn and thrive. To every member of CMPD, thank you for all that you do.”
