Charlotte youth to reach their full potential. The Mayor’s participation in this conference reinforces
his desire to engage a variety of stakeholders in dialogue related to prevention, intervention and

It is an indisputable fact that violence in America is a “disease” that disproportionately afflicts
young men of color. Violence ought to, therefore, be included in any discussions of health disparities
in this country, yet it rarely, if ever, is. Conference attendees will include case managers, social
workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, licensed professional counselors, educators, school personnel,
mental health professionals, clergy, clinicians, nurses, health and human service practitioners and
parents.
