FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 16, 2011
Tapping a familiar face just weeks after the Democratic National Committee (DNC) selected Charlotte to host the 2012 DNC Convention, Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx today named former Mayor Harvey Gantt to develop Charlotte’s blueprint for action for the 2012 Convention.
Working with Democratic National Committee officials and leaders of past conventions, Gantt will survey best practices and propose a plan of action for the Charlotte event.
“Mayor Gantt is the perfect person to help Charlotte transition from recruiting the 2012 Convention to now making it a great event for all concerned, and I thank him for his willingness to help on such a short time-line,” said Mayor Foxx. “He will do a great job of surveying the best practices of previous convention cities and helping to apply those lessons as we seek to build the best organizational and staffing model for the Charlotte Host Committee.”
“I am excited to assist Mayor Foxx in this very important endeavor to make sure that Charlotte puts on the best convention possible,” said Mayor Gantt.
Gantt will be supported by volunteer Rachel Hunt Nilander, a Charlotte attorney and daughter of former Governor James B. Hunt.
