Mayor Patrick Cannon presented City of Charlotte’s priorities today at The White House

I was honored to represent the City of Charlotte today at a meeting with President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden, along with members of the president’s cabinet and other newly-elected mayors from select cities across the United States. Each mayor was invited to speak of their priorities for the cities they represent.  As mayor, my fundamental goal remains the same as those who preceded me … moving Charlotte forward with the same collaborative spirit that has always existed in our “can do” and “will do” city.

I believe that Charlotte’s priorities are the community’s needs and the city’s aspirations.  I urged our leaders and partners at the federal level to help us seek funding mechanisms that will enable Charlotte to develop initiatives that bring manufacturing jobs and support transportation in our community and region.

My priorities include:

  • Economic Development and Global Competitiveness
  • Transportation
  • Housing
  • Jobs
  • Community Safety

I know that we can and will make progress in each of these areas; for all of our interests and successes are linked. I look forward to working with my fellow citizens and all levels of government in writing the next chapter of Charlotte’s success.
