Saturday, December 14, 2019
The City of Charlotte, in collaboration with several community partners, will hold a community day on Saturday, December 14, in the historic Charlotte neighborhood of Washington Heights. The focus of the community event and resource fair is to bring awareness to the intricate relationship between health and housing.
The City of Charlotte is partnering with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), National League of Cities, Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte, Lowe's and more, to help host the event.
The day begins with sponsors, donors and volunteers from the City of Charlotte, HUD, Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte and Lowe's who will be making repairs and improvements to three homes in Washington Heights to ensure the homes are healthy and safe. Local volunteers, in collaboration with the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, will work on community projects in Washington Heights and Andrill Terrace focusing on beautification of the neighborhoods and Coleman Park throughout the morning.
The culmination of the day's activities will be a community fair hosted at Northwest School of the Arts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Local vendors at the fair include several City of Charlotte departments that will share information on recycling, water safety, healthy eating, asthma, health screenings, and more.
Community art projects are also planned for children and Charlotte's well-loved sports and City mascots will make an appearance. Giveaways and food trucks will also be on hand to feed and entertain the residents.
