Join Charlotte as we celebrate Welcoming Week 2021 — we celebrate our community being a place where everyone belongs. Born here or there and from across an ocean, we welcome you to Charlotte. Join these fun events this September for Welcoming Week 2021 and be part of the growing movement of people declaring #BelongingBeginsWithUS. Check out the fun events listed below that are supported by the City of Charlotte and the Arts and Science Council.

Health and safety remain a top priority during this uncertain time of the COVID-19 pandemic. Residents should take extra care when gathering in person. All Welcoming Week events supported through this partnership are virtual or outdoors. We ask that attendees of in-person outdoor mask-up and physically distance from each other.

Family Bonding through Art

Local Artist Edith Covarrubias invites families for an arts and crafts activity to make Catrina masks. This fun event explores a Mexican art tradition and is a fun bonding experience for parents and kids. StarMed Healthcare will be providing Covid-19 vaccines at the event. Please wear your mask to enjoy the arts and crafts.

Returning to yourself - a restorative evening of introspection, relaxing music and connections

Friday, September 17 from 5:30pm to 8 pm 
Event Host: Ana Lucia Divins 

Join us for a self-care and restorative experience featuring a meditative sound bath session offered by Healer and Therapeutic Harp Practitioner Beth Brown, followed by an immersive exploration of flavors of herbal teas and aromatherapy presented by Sherry Waters and wrapping up the evening with a set of relaxing tunes presented by Café Amaretto Music. The event will be held outdoors, please bring water, yoga mat, and mask.

Movie Night: Eyimofe (This is My Desire)

Saturday, September 18 at 7pm
Event Host: Tre' McGriff with Cine Odyssey Film Festival

Two parallel stories set in Lagos, Nigeria "Eyimofe (This is My Desire)" follows the stories of Mofe, a factory technician, and Rosa, a hairdresser, on their quest for what they believe will be a better life on foreign shores. A free special screening presented by the CineOdyssey Film Festival for Welcoming Week Charlotte 2021.

Spiced Kinship: Art and Recipe Swap

Spiced Kinship is a creative platform and free resource to build understanding and respect of diverse communities through the sharing of food, art and culture. Individuals across different backgrounds, ethnicities, ages and experiences can share what feeds their tummies and souls. Spiced Kinship is pleased to be partnering with the India Association of Charlotte on September 18th - Visual Art Gallery team for a lively discussion about regional food culture in India and an incredible food collage created by 18 local Charlotte artists during the pandemic.
